When done right online SAT or ACT tutoring is as effective as in-person private SAT or ACT tutoring and I have achieved great results with most of the students that I have worked with. The majority of these students are located internationally in places like Dubai, Rome, Singapore, and Beijing. But I have tutored students online who are local and who could meet with me in-person but the convenience and effectiveness of online tutoring is such that they just choose to work with me online instead.
The online interface that I use is dynamic and robust. My students and I are visible to each other throughout the session, but most of the screen space is a shared whiteboard that we work together on. I am able to load practice questions and entire practice SAT and ACT tests into the interface and we can mark up the screen using a tablet device and pen. Furthermore, I can save all of the whiteboards and all of the notes from the sessions as a pdf and send them to the students after the meeting so that they can review what we covered if necessary. And I am able to video record the sessions for students who wish to go back and watch the sessions afterwards.
“I have had a number of students tell me in the very first meeting that it feels like I am sitting right next to them during the session”.
Because online SAT/ACT tutoring is not for everyone, I always do a free 1 hour session with students who are interested in online tutoring. This allows students and parents to gauge whether they think working virtually will be effective and to get a feel for how the interface works. In almost every case students walk away from this first free virtual session absolutely amazed at how effective it is and I have had a number of students tell me in the very first meeting that it feels like I am sitting right next to them during the meeting.
